For some reason, you never feel like you are enough. You feel like you will never measure up, always comparing yourself to the people you see while allowing their opinions to control you. Now you let your beauty and self-worth be defined by the world.

The terms confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth are all words that have posed a major problem in my life. Ultimately, I allowed others to destroy the lens through which I saw myself and replace it with their own tainted perception. It is crazy how easy it is to allow Instagram likes and followers to determine your worth. It is so easy to compare yourself to pictures and lifestyles you see on the internet.

I know how it feels to experience ultimate brokenness from things that have occurred in your life, in your past. I know how it feels to receive a compliment and deep down believe the complete opposite. I know what it feels like to have all these thoughts and feelings wage war in your head.

But, guess what? There is hope. You are not alone. There is a loving Father above who thinks that you are to die for, literally. He sent His only son to die the most painful death JUST so that we may be free and saved by His grace. The same God who created the heaven and the earth is the same God who thought His creation wouldn’t be complete and perfect without you and me.

I know it is difficult not to get consumed by how we look and if it measures up to what we see on the internet or what is expected from others. But don’t you know that you are made in the image and likeness of God?

FINDING YOUR TRUTH IDENTITY IN CHRIST

You were never meant to define yourself by the world’s standards. The more you root yourself in who God says you are, the more secure and unshakable your identity becomes. Your identity in Christ is not based on what you’ve done; it’s based on what Jesus already did.

THE WORD OF GOD SOLIDIFIES YOUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST

Let’s try to forget what other people think and disregard the world’s false perception of perfection. Let’s focus on our identity in Christ and meditate on the truth.

YOU ARE CHOSEN AND APPOINTED

The world will rank and define you based on what you do, what you accomplish, and where you are in life. You are not defined by worldly possessions and what you have or have not achieved. You are defined by God. A God who knew you before you were conceived and even before the world came to be chose you and set you apart.

You didn’t have to go searching high and low for Jesus. He came looking for you, and He chose you. Even before you were created, you were chosen and appointed. That can’t be taken away from you by anything or anyone.

YOU ARE ENOUGH

There are points in our lives where we feel as though we aren’t enough. Somehow, you juggle in between who you are, your wishes of who you want to be, and what people tell you you should be. Being wedged in the middle of these things can bring you sadness, shame, pain, and hurt. The truth is, the information you are receiving is from an unreliable source. Chasing after the things of this world will only bring forth disappointment. What you are ‘missing’ is found in Jesus.

You are more than enough to the Father. He could have wiped out this world and decided that He would start fresh with sinless humans, but He didn’t. God looked at you and he looked at me and said that he wouldn’t want a world without us. He said that we are worth it. Even though we may not be enough to other people, we are enough to Jesus Christ. He laid down his life just because we are enough.

YOU ARE ACCEPTED

I am sure everyone HATES being rejected, and that causes us to do things out of our norm to avoid rejection. Acceptance only comes from Jesus Christ. He has never and will never reject you. You are accepted. He doesn’t require you to be perfect. No matter what you do, He accepts you.

God chose you. He appointed you. He accepts you. You are enough to Him. The world does not define your worth, nor does it define your identity. Your identity is found in Christ, and you are worth everything to Him.

Biblical affirmations to help solidify your identity in Christ

Prayer:

Lord, You knit me together in my mother’s womb before I was even made known to the world. You said that I was made in Your image and in Your likeness. You said that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. When You look at me, You deem me a masterpiece. Surely a masterpiece is more than enough. Heavenly Father, forgive me for all the times where I have been unhappy and questioned your marvelously designed creation. For You are God and You make no mistakes. All my imperfections to the world, are made perfect in You.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.
